Skincare While Traveling

Out of Office Travel Set

If you haven’t gotten the hints by now, I’ve been hinting that I am traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday.  I’m not ready to reveal where just yet, but it is super exciting and I’m dying to tell you!  In honor of college fall breaks and Thanksgiving travels coming up, I’m sharing how to take care of your skin while traveling, flying, or on vacation.  Whether it’s the holiday treats, traveling stress, or final exams creeping up on you, your skin can take a toll for the worse which is why it is so important to know how to take care of your skin when life takes over.

My skin gets freaked out when I travel and I’m not sure if it’s because of the airplane, different foods I’m eating, or a different routine.  Before we even get to the actual traveling part, lets talk about a few things:

have a skincare routine.

First things first: if you don’t have a skincare routine by now… you need one.  Having a skincare routine is crucial to fighting aging, skin cancers, and acne.  For a basic skincare routine, all you need is a gentle cleanser, toner, and a light moisturizer with SPF.  After you get the hang of a basic routine, you can add a night serum or acne spot treatment if you feel the need.  I’ve heard that vitamin C serums are great for every skin type and I’ve used this acne spot treatment for years now and I still recommend it to everyone!  I’ll make a post all about my morning skincare routine soon, but for now, read my nightly skincare routine to see all of the products I’m currently using.

invest in travel sized products.

Before you even start packing for your trip, think about what skincare products you can’t live without and either decant them into travel sized bottles or purchase your holy grail products in prepackaged travel sizes.  This Clinique gift set comes with three full sized products and three travel sized ones.  I’ve used this set forever now and it’s still my favorite.  You can also purchase these products separately if you wish.  Personally, I just buy my skincare products in travel sized containers because it’s more convenient for me and saves me time, but feel free to do as you wish.

the night before.

The night before traveling it’s crucial to prep your skin by exfoliating and hydrating.  the night before your flight exfoliate your skin with an exfoliating wash or mask.  (I recommend the Simple Smoothing Facial Scrub.  It uses rice granules instead of micro-beads so it isn’t harming the environment.  It’s also fragrance free to avoid skin irritation.)  After you have finished exfoliating, follow up with your typical skincare routine.

the morning before.

The morning before your flight is the perfect time to lock in moisture and hydrate your skin.  I like to use a hydrating mask like the Garnier Moisture Bomb sheet mask or the Neutrogena Hydro Boost sheet mask.  I prefer sheet masks over traditional ones because I can multitask and I can also bring one to do on the plane.  Both of these masks are super hydrating and leave your skin refreshed and nourished!

while flying.

My number one recommendation: if you can, avoid wearing makeup on the plane.  Makeup can clog your pores and the air is super dry on an airplane which can cause breakouts.  If you have a meeting or have plans after you land, bring a small makeup bag (I’m obsessed with this one) with your makeup basics along with a cleanser and moisturizer to apply in the airplane bathroom before landing!

Since the air is so drying on airplanes, it’s important to retain skin’s moisture, and there’s no better way to do so than with a facial oil.  This Drunk Elephant marula oil is the one and only facial oil I’ve ever tried and it will aid in avoiding dehydration on the plane. I apply a few drops before the flight.  (I have combination/dry skin so I apply 3 drops every hour on the flight but for oily skin I’s only apply 2 drops.)

after landing.

Once you get to your destination, be sure to take extra care of your skin the first night.  I like to exfoliate again and apply a mixture of the marula oil and a good moisturizer.  I stick to my usual moisturizer which is the Clinique Moisturizing Lotion+.  I don’t use a bunch of different products because of my sensitive and acne prone skin.  If I feel the need I will also use another sheet mask that night too.

It’s so important to drink tons of water while traveling to avoid breakouts and keep your skin hydrated.  Water really does wonders for your body and skin and when you’re traveling, take all of the moisture and hydration you can get!  Don’t forget to take care of the rest of your skin while traveling: use body lotion daily, apply hand cream on the plane and before bed, (this Neutrogena one is my favorite and can be used on your knees, elbows, and lips too!) and always bring lip balm.  (Extremely obsessed with this Burt’s Bees one!)  There’s nothing worse than dry, chapped lips!

Whether you have dry or oily skin, hydration is crucial to maintaining your skin’s balance.  Even oily skin can suffer from traveling due to producing more oil in order to overcompensate from moisture loss.  With dry skin, moisture loss can cause skin flakes, painful breakouts, and cracked skin.  Be sure to follow these steps to keep your skin happy and hydrated!

My Nightly Skincare Routine

N Skin 6N Skin 1N Skin 5N Skin 4N Skin 8N Skin 2N Skin 3N Skin 7

If you have been following me for the past few months, you know that I am a major skincare fanatic.  I love all things makeup and beauty and the best way to look and feel beautiful is with your skin.  It is so important to take care of your skin and to keep it healthy, you always want to avoid premature aging and potential skin cancer.  Clean skin is happy skin so I want to share my night time skin care regime with you all!

If you don’t know, for the past two years I’ve suffered from cystic acne.  Years ago, I hardly had any breakouts unless it was around that time of the month but due to some birth control issues I developed cystic acne and let me tell you…. it is definitely not pretty and my face was hurting all the time.  I started to wear more makeup to try to cover up my unsightly blemishes but it made things worse and my confidence plummeted.  I’ve always taken care of my skin since I was around eleven or twelve but I never thought my face would become as bad as it was.

After months of dermatologists appointments and trying every breakout treatment, facial, and wash under the sun, and was about to try Acutane… it wasn’t until I switched to a new dermatologist to finally take control of my acne.  About a year has past since I started taking medication and using a few prescription topical creams; but I’ve recently changed up my routine and added some new products that I’m loving and wanted to share my most recent nightly skin routine.

Step 1: Remove Makeup

To kick off my routine, if I wear makeup that day (which I normally do) I take my makeup off with these micellar water facial wipes.  I used to use a cotton pad and makeup remover from a bottle but I started to get eyelash extensions so I switched to these.  Normally with makeup wipes, I feel like they don’t take off all of my makeup and they would leave an oily residue on my skin which made me frightful of future breakouts, but these wipes make my skin feel like it can breathe and they don’t leave any trace of residue.

Step 2: Cleanser

When I first learned a real skin care routine, I started off using only Lancome products.  Though they tend to last a long time, they quickly became expensive so I went on the hunt to find a skincare line that was just as good and soothed my sensitive skin.  That’s when I decided to give Clinique a go.  I’ve always known this brand works miracles for sensitive and acne prone skin, but I never really had the urge to try it until a few months ago when I ran out of my usual toner.  I truly love this cleanser because it’s so basic, doesn’t irritate my skin, and I actually feel clean when I’m done washing my face.  I also mix this cleanser with a prescription face wash and use my all time favorite Foreo Luna FoFo.  The vibrations cause the cleansers to get foamy and really soak deep into my pores.  I also feel better about not using my hands to wash my face so I can avoid adding oils or germs to my skin.

Step 3: Toner

This brand has a few different types of products to suit your skin type.  In toner, They have four different ones to suit your needs.  I have dry skin from my prescription topical creams so I use the type two formula.  Toner is really good for balancing your skin out, evens out skin tone, and helps get rid of dark spots.  This toner is so refreshing and cools your face down as you glide it across your skin.  It also pulls out any excess makeup or tanner from your face as well.  I got a large bottle and it has lasted me for over two months so far and also came with a pump cap as well as a travel twist cap.

Step 4: Topical Treatments

Along with my prescription topical gels, I recently added this blemish clearing gel.  It smells great and really does work.  It targets acne and blackheads without drying out your skin.  If I have a pimple, I use it as a spot treatment.  I also use it where I tend to get blackheads and I’ve seen a reduction of them as well.  Sometimes when I’m nervous a breakout is coming on, I’ll apply a thin layer of gel all over my face and I wake up with crystal clear skin!  I am such a fan of this topical gel and I recommend it to everyone!

Step 5: Moisturize

The best way to soothe your skin is to moisturize.  This is my favorite part of my routine. After I use this moisturizing lotion my skin feels soft, supple, and calm.  I use the lotion for my dry skin but they also make a moisturizing gel for oily skin types as well.  I’m absolutely in love with this moisturizer because it’s so lightweight and doesn’t leave my skin oily.  I use it all over my face and on my neck to keep it soft and to avoid wrinkles.

Step 6: Oil

I could always use some extra softening and moisturizing so I recently added this luxury marula oil to my routine.  Let me warn you that this oil is a little pricey, but it has done wonders for my skin.  I’ve heard that you can find organic marula oil for less than the one I currently use so I’m planning on researching more on that once I run low on this one.  This oil has made such a difference in my skin.  A little goes a long way so I use about three drops at a time.  The oil has made my skin so moisturized and when I wake up the next morning I have an even skin tone, blemish free skin, and I’m glowing from this oil.  It is universal to every single skin type so you shouldn’t be worried about a reaction to it.  I was skeptical at first but I am so happy I took the plunge and invested in this stuff. If you’re thinking about purchasing any skin care items I highly reccomend this one.  They make a smaller sized bottle for less and it should still last a really long time!

You can get my three favorite full size cleansing products and three travel items in this kit for dry skin or this one for oily skin which I actually purchased when first trying out these products.  They also make mini kits like this dry skin introduction kit  and this oily skin introduction kit as well if you want to try them out first to see if these products are right for you

That’s all I have for my latest nightly skin care routine! Be sure to follow along with me on Instagram @everydayxelizabeth to stay up to date on all of my beauty, fashion, and lifestyle tips! Xx

  1. Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray  | $32 | This is seriously the best setting spray I’ve tried! It makes my makeup last for hours and looking fresh longer.  Definitely worth the price!
  2. It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Finish Airbrush Powder |$24 | By far my favorite powder.  It blends my pores and is great for setting my whole face and works well for baking my chin and under eyes.
  3. Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette | $39 | This all matte eyeshadow palette has lasted me for years and the colors are versatile with every eye color and skin tone.  These shadows are super pigmented yet blend easily and smoothly.
  4. Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo | $23 | I use dry shampoo everyday because it gives my hair a little bit of volume and some added texture.  Holy Moly this is the best dry shampoo I’ve tried.  It’s more of a splurge for this type of product but it really soaks up all the oils, doesn’t leave my roots dull, and gives the volume I desire.
  5. GLAMGLOW Supermud Clearing Treatment | $59 | I am a huge lover of skincare and I got a sample of this for my birthday.  I had a flare up last week with my cystic acne because I ran out of m medication and I tried this for the first time and it cleared my skin up by the next day! I will most likely be buying this for sure during the sale because it is so worth the splurge.
  6. Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick | $22 | I’m a sucker for a good matte lip.  Lately I’ve been using the color ‘Patina’ which is a dusty rose color.  I really like how smooth and long lasting the formula is.
  7. BeautyBlender Nude | $20 | It’s always a good idea to stock up on your favorite items during a sale.  I use this to blend my foundation and concealer, and also to bake my under eyes. My favorite is the nude color because it doesn’t look as dirty as the others but always remember to clean your sponges often no matter how clean it looks!
  8. Tarte Hamptons Weekender Contour Palette | $23 | This palm sized palette is perfect for travel and has the most pigmented and gorgeous shades for many skin tones.
  9. Foreo LUNA fofo |$89 | So I know this isn’t quite budget friendly for a lot of us, but it is worth the money! I recently got this and I’m glad I did because my skin looks and feels sooooo good!  This little beauty comes in 7 colors and connects to an app on your phone to give you information on your skin like age and moisture level and gives you tips on how to improve it.
  10. Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil | $40 | I bought the full sized one which is $72 which was super expensive in my opinion.  However, this is the first oil I’ve tried on my skin because I have super sensitive and acne prone skin and I can’t get enough of this stuff.  It’s really good for my dry skin, gives me a nice healthy glow, and doesn’t leave an oily residue. I use it on my face, lips, and cuticles for extra moisture and conditioning.

These are my favorite prestige makeup, skincare, and hair products that would be a great buy during the Sephora sale! whether you buy multiple products or just buy one, use the promo codes to save yourself some moolah!  Hoped this gave you some ideas on  new products to try! Xx

My Makeup Essentials

7583904000_IMG_1125IMG_32887583904000_IMG_1240IMG_3206     This post is probably going to be one of my faves to share with you all because I absolutely LOVE all things beauty and skincare, especially makeup.  Ever since I was three years old, my grandma would give me one of her old lipsticks and I was just obsessed from there on out.  My aunt would also get me cute little makeup gift sets every year for Christmas when I was in middle school.  Then as I got older and learned how to blend harsh foundation lines and how to take care of my skin, cute little beauty sets turned into Sephora and Ulta gift cards and I began to find products that I just can’t live without.  Of course I don’t wear makeup every single day because 1) I like to give my skin a break, 2) although I love makeup, sometimes I’m really not in the mood to put it on, and 3) it is so hot in Florida during this time of year so makeup practically melts off of your face as soon as you walk out of the door.  When I do apply my face, I love these products:

  1. This primer from Urban Decay.  It makes your skin so smooth, it’s super lightweight, and has SPF 30.
  2. This Loreal foundation  I love foundations that make your skin look glowing because sometimes matte foundations are too drying for me and look unnatural on my skin.  This one has SPF 15, it’s good for normal/dry skin, and it’s only around $12.
  3.  For concealer, I swear by this one.  It has great coverage that’s buildable and comes in so many shades.  Concealer is my favorite part of my makeup routine because I love how it blends and brightens my skin!  This brand just kills it in the beauty game for me overall.  Every single product I’ve tried from them just sets my heart on fire!
  4. Linked my favorite powder here.  It really sets my makeup, makes it stay in place, doesn’t cause any breakouts for me, (and I have super sensitive skin/cystic acne) and makes my face look pore less.
  5. I hardly wear any eyeliner but when I do, I use this one.  It’s creamy and soft, and stays in place.  I got a sample size of this one and it has lasted me so long, I haven’t bought another one for like a year.  I like to put a little liner halfway through my bottom lash line and then blend it out with a smudge brush so the line doesn’t look as harsh.
  6. Next, eyebrows.  I’ve used this brow pencil for years! It’s inexpensive and micro size so its very precise and blends so smoothly. I can do my brows with this in less than three minutes because it is just super easy to use.  I use the shade “brunette.”  I also use this brow gel to stay in place but clear mascara also does the trick. (FYI: if you don’t want another makeup product, use hairspray and an old mascara wand.)
  7. Since i have eyelash extensions, I only wear mascara on my bottom lashes.  I always struggle with finding a mascara that doesn’t fall and smear under my eyes and make me look like a raccoon by the end of the day.  I recently added this lash primer into my routine & this mascara that I’ve used since it high school is amazing.  It curls and lengthens your lashes and lasts all day without smearing.
  8.  Very rarely do I apply eyeshadow, but this palette is my favorite.  The shades are so versatile and natural.   My fave shades are Force of Nature, Natural Beauty, and Wanderer.  For everyday wear and travel, I just blend some bronzer into my crease and call it a day.
  9. Truthfully, I have not found individual bronzers, blushes, and highlighters that I love… but I love a one and done palette for traveling like this one with all three practically universal shades.  I also love this palette: for bronzer in the shade “sculpt” and my favorite highlighter in this palette is called “stunner.”  Also, this blush, bronzer, and shadow palette is small, easy for travel, and comes in skin tone sets.  I use the “fair/light” one when I haven’t tanned recently, and the “medium/tan” when I self tan.
  10. Finally, lip liner and lipstick.  This lip liner is my absolute favorite versatile shade I have ever tried in my life! I literally wear it every single day.  I have an entire drawer filled with lipsticks and I struggle finding the best formula and shade of nude for me, so I honestly wear a different one almost everyday.  However, my go to ones are this one and this one.  I like using both because I think I get the perfect nude pink color I desire and it lasts all day without reapplying.
  11. My favorite setting spray is the iconic Urban Decay All Nighter.  I love the “pollution protection” formula the best!

Well, there you have it!  Now that I write it all out, it seems like I use a lot of products lol. Honestly, I think my favorite/go-to makeup look is easy, simple, and fairly quick to do. I want to let you guys know that I’m not trying to push these products on you at all.  These are products that truly work for me and I feel like I can’t live without them and if you just happen to be looking for a new product of some kind, I’m here to help, be transparent, and tell you what really works for me… and if I manage to help you out in the process, I can’t be more happy!

I’ll post a tutorial on how I do my makeup in the near future!  Until then, feel free to DM me on my instagram @everydayxelizabeth if you have any questions! Xx
