What’s in my Travel Bag | Surviving a Long Flight

Happy Thursday babes!  I hope you all are having a great week and have an exciting weekend planned.  I’ve been hinting at some exciting things coming up this month and if you haven’t guessed yet, stay tuned to find out!   I’m writing this post in case somebody is traveling for the holidays and needs tips to stay occupied while enduring a long travel day.  Just to give a little hint, I will be traveling this Thanksgiving and I’m beyond excited!    Today, I’m sharing the ways I’ll survive a long flight without wanting to pull my hair out from boredom.

I don’t take long flights often so when I have a flight thats longer than I’m used to, I get nervous I’ll be bored out of my mind and run out of things to do while waiting to get to my destination.  Over time, I learned a few things that help me out while traveling a long distance away from home.

pack a travel bag.

the most crucial part of surviving a long flight is to pack a bag with essential items that you can’t live without while on the plane.  Here’s what’s in my travel bag:

carry on list

Laptop Case | Planner | Portable Battery | Book | Headphones | S’well Bottle | Pen Lippe Balm | RX Bar | Satin Pillow and Sleep Mask

only pack a carry on.

So let’s get something straight… I like getting dressed up, putting makeup on, and doing my hair… and that takes A TON of product.  You don’t realize how many products you use until you have to pack it all in a suitcase.  When it comes to packing, all of the glitz and glam can be bulky and take up a lot of space.  Be sure to take the time and put all of your toiletries in those little bottles and invest in some travel size makeup, hair, and skincare products.  This will save a lot of space which you can use for fitting your clothes!  Another thing, get some packing cubes.  These little suckers are great for compacting all of your goodies so you won’t have to check a bag.  This will be the first time I will be packing all of my goodies in just a carry on and honestly, I’m nervous that it all won’t fit.  I’ll be sure to make a blog post all about how I will be packing for my holiday coming up in the next few weeks.  I’m choosing to go carry on only because the last time I traveled, I made it to my destination, but my luggage did not.  That was the worst experience I’ve had when it comes to traveling because I didn’t even have makeup wipes or pajamas and I traveled in the winter and it was my first time experiencing snow.  Call me paranoid, but this time, I’m determined on not checking any luggage.

dress comfortably.

One of the worst things about traveling is feeling uncomfortable in your clothes while traveling.  Most people would choose comfort over style, but I don’t feel like you need to choose! I mean, why not be comfortable and stylish at the same time?! Airplane temperatures can be unpredictable at times so it’s best to layer.  Personally, I get cold on a flight so I love layering to keep warm on the plane and then shed layers when I get to my destination.  Here are some of my favorite items to travel in:

travel outfit inspo

Zella Legging | Adidas Hoodie | Black Sneakers | Denim Jacket | Grey Joggers | Striped Tee | Grey Cardigan | Graphic Tee | Miller Sandals | Distressed Jeans

take a nap.

For some reason, I automatically fall asleep after the plane takes off.  I’m not sure if it’s because I get anxious before flights and them I’m relaxed after I make it on the plane, if the motion of the plane relaxes me, or I’m relieved that I conquered the airport but your girl just passes out for hours.  I guess I’m lucky because I spend most flights asleep, but if you can’t fall asleep, put some headphones in and listen to calming sounds like ocean waves or rain to relax and keep calm.  (Remember to download all of your music/calming sounds before your flight.) Also, set a timer on your phone before you take a nap to avoid over sleeping.

get some work done or research your destination.

On my upcoming trip, I’m bringing my laptop so I can catch up on work and blog posts while I’m on holiday.  I’ll most likely be writing blog posts or doing some sort of work for the blog while I’m flying.  If you’re anything like me and you always have to be doing something, then by all means work while traveling!  There’s usually wifi on flights nowadays, and sometimes you don’t even need it for what you are working on.  Whether it’s putting final touches on that work presentation, or writing a term paper for your college classes, take this time and be productive so you can feel stress free when you land.

relax.

Traveling can be a hassle.  Just sit back, read a book, doodle in a notebook, or listen to music.  You’ll most likely be needing all of your energy to spend living it up on vacation, so rest up while you can!  Whatever you choose to do to pass the time while traveling just relax, be prepared, and enjoy the journey!  I hope you have a joyful Thanksgiving and safe travels!

Me Time Must Haves

Let’s cut the bull and get real here for a second… life is crazy.  Life is hard.  Life can be exhausting sometimes.  It is so important to take the time out of your busy life, to stop what you’re doing, take a deep breath, and carve out a few minutes every once in a while to take care of yourself and relax.  We are all boss babes here with a lot on our plates.  Whether it’s your kids, your man, school, work, or even family… those things can stress you out easily.  I always say you can’t take care of others until you have taken care of yourself.  That might come of as selfish to you, but it shouldn’t.  I know its extremely difficult to take a step back and just breathe or find the time to do one thing for yourself, but trust me when I say that it is so important to take care of your physical and mental well being so you can help take care of others and complete tasks that need to get done. Because I think self care is so crucial, I really wanted to write this post for you to get an idea of what I like to do for myself when my anxiety gets the best of me, and how I take care of myself with a few activities and must have items for “me time.”

Rule #1: NO PHONES ALLOWED

The number one rule for me when I take time for myself is that I can’t get on my phone.  If I use my phone I’m not relaxing and I’m either on Instagram or I’m focusing on work.  I doubt this is just me, but if I’m on social media too much, my anxiety gets worse and then I start thinking negative things about myself as I’m looking at a bunch of perfect photos of other women, even if I know that what I’m thinking about myself isn’t true.  When it’s me time, I either have to put my phone on “do not disturb” or airplane mode so I’ll be forced to focus on relaxing.

Here are a few things I like to do during “me time”

Take a hot bath with bubbles or bath salts.  This is one of my favorite activities to do for myself because it helps me relax.  Depending on what time of day it is and how my body is feeling, I either like to use these bath salts or this bubble bath.  The bath salts help with muscle tension and the lavender in the bubble bath is super soothing and calming before bed.  Turning off the lights and burning a few candles around the room also aids in relaxation so I light a few candles on the counter and around the tub and just hang out until I’m ready to hop out and lotion up.

Do a face mask. After I get out of the bath, I enjoy doing a face mask since my pores are opened afterwards.  My favorite drugstore mask is this one.  It’s really cooling and calms my skin down.  This formula is best for acne prone and sensitive skin.  I’ve been using this mask for a few months now and I recently purchased it again because I’ve seen an improvement with my skins texture and color.  I’m not as red and splotchy when I use this mask compared to using others I’ve tried.  After the mask, if I have a few blemishes or feel some forming, I use this mask as a spot treatment.  It’s easy to wash off and helps me avoid killer breakouts.  I only purchase the mini size because I only use a dab at a time on my acne, but if you want to use it all over your face you can.

Give your lips a little love.  For my lips, I feel best when they are exfoliated and moisturized.  I love long wear matte lipsticks, but they can take a toll on my lips pretty quickly.  I like to exfoliate with this conditioning exfoliating balm and then moisturize using this lip balm.  Both of these products soothe my lips and keep them plump and moisturized.  There’s nothing like great feeling (and looking) lips to make a girl feel good about herself!

Listen to some music.  I love listening to some of my favorite music when I’ve had a hard day.  It really distracts me and puts me in a better mood to finish out the rest of the day.

Read a book.  It gets difficult for me to get some reading time into my day, but sometimes I set 15-30 minutes aside to read a chapter or two in a book I’ve been reading.

Take a walk.  In all honesty, I don’t really like to work out.  Although I try to snag at least a half an hour workout in most days, sometimes I definitely don’t want to.  When I feel down or frustrated, I enjoy going on a 20 minute walk with my pup.  It makes him happy, tires him out, and clears my head.  It also makes me feel like I got a mini workout in!

Eat a good meal.  It doesn’t matter if you are eating a healthy meal, or choosing to have a cheat meal, eat what you want.  Just take the time to sit down and enjoy it without distractions.

Take a nap.  If I’m over exhausted, it’s not good for anyone I have to interact with.  Set a timer between 20-45 minutes and take a little power nap.  You’ll wake up with more energy and in a better mood.

Have a glass of wine or cup of tea.  Depending on my mood and the time of day,  I let myself have a glass of red wine or cup of tea and watch an episode of my favorite television show before I go to sleep at night.  It’s a little self care treat for me… and let’s be for real, who can live without wine?  Not this girl.

There’s a few ideas of things to do for when you are feeling like you’re day is out of control.  These tasks help me and I’m sure they will help you too.  I’ve linked everything you need for your next session of “me time” and the products that keep me feeling good.

Thanksgiving Outfit Inspo

JumperScarf 2Leather 2Cheetah 2

It’s almost my favorite holiday where you can eat as much as you want and not get judged for it!  Though I won’t be celebrating Thanksgiving how I normally do this year, (can’t wait to finally tell you all what’s happening!) I still wanted to round up some Thanksgiving outfit inspiration for you all!  Whether your family keeps it casual, or gets all glammed up, I have the outfit inspiration to help you out!

Jumper 2Jumper 3Jumper 4Jumper

Black Jumper | Striped Top | Black Booties

Such a trending look at the moment, jumpers/overalls (whatever suits your fancy) became wildly popular this fall.  As you know by now, black is my favorite color to wear so of course I snagged this corduroy jumper!  Corduroy is a great material for fall since it keeps you warm and adds some texture variation to your outfit.  I’ve probably wore this piece about a hundred times since I got it last year, but I always change the shirt underneath which creates a whole new look!  I especially like it paired with this striped top which gives it a fall vibe.  Last time I checked, this color is sold out but a black and white one looks super chic underneath as well.  This jumper also looks amazing with a fitted off the shoulder long sleeve underneath as well as a turtleneck.  Last thanksgiving I wore a mauve turtleneck underneath, and I got so many compliments!  I dressed it up with some heeled sock booties but it also looks cute with loafers, slides, heels, and sandals!

Scarf 4Scarf 3Scarf 1Scarf 2

Grey Dress | Blanket Scarf | Utility Jacket | Nude Booties

If your holiday is a little dressier, a versatile and comfortable dress is a great way to go!  I own this dress in three colors because it’s so flattering on every body type, it’s comfortable, and is super easy to pair with accessories in order to dress it up or down.  This blanket scarf is a classic plaid which always gives your look that small touch of fall.  Blanket scarves pair well with any outfit and keep you very warm.  I’ve had this utility jacket for years now and I wear it all the time.  Olive green is a perfect fall color that blends well with neutrals and warm tones.  I think a good utility jacket should be an investment piece because you will definitely get your money’s worth since you will most likely be wearing it often and it adds a chill, effortless touch to any outfit. (Not to mention all of the pockets so you won’t have to carry a bag.)  Paired this look with another seasonal staple item, nude booties.  Again, easy for dressing up and down any look!

Leather 2Leather 5Leather 1Leather 4

White Henley | Blue Jeans | Leather Jacket | Wide Brim Hat | Black OTK Boots

Are you a woman with more of a boho or edgy style?  Have no fear, your outfit is here!  This look is one of my personal favorites because I love some good basics!  I’ve had a crush on henley style tops for as long as I can remember.  They are super flattering and affordable, and the buttons are perfect for nursing mammas.  You can always unbutton a button or two to add some sexiness to your look if you want as well…who knows, you might be with your family during the day but are meeting your crush at a cozy fall bonfire later!  Just pair a henley with some of your trusted, all time favorite, holy grail jeans and you are halfway dressed!  Throw on a wide brim hat to add a little boho chic to your edgy look, throw on some over the knee boots or booties, and your almost there! if it’s not that chilly in your area this holiday, you can just walk out of the door now! But if it’s on the cooler side, or even just for the sake of fashion, snag a leather jacket to up the edge a little on this look and stay warm while looking cool!

Cheetah 2Cheetah 3Cheeah 1

Oversized Sweater | Legging | Black OTK Boot

My family doesn’t judge or have a dress code when it comes to Thanksgiving.  We don’t really take a lot of family photos or anything so we keep this holiday pretty casual.  Personally, I dress up a little more on holidays because I love an excuse to get dressed up, but I love a comfortable and casual look as well.  There’s nothing worse than being super stuffed and uncomfortable in your outfit.  An oversized sweater and legging combination is the perfect way to avoid that from happening.  the oversized sweater hides your food baby and the leggings are super stretchy so you won’t feel constricted after that second piece of pie!  Bonus: this look is comfortable enough to take your post feast nap in!  You’ll feel effortlessly cute and put together by adding your favorite pair of boots or booties on as well.

If I was celebrating Thanksgiving this year, I would totally be rocking one of these outfits!  Follow along @everydayxelizabeth on Instagram to get more holiday outfit inspiration! Xx

How I Stay Organized During the Holiday Season

Planner 1Planner 3Planner 4Planner 2

It’s officially November which means Thanksgiving is almost near and then Christmas is right around the corner!  I’m so excited for this season but at the same time it can be overwhelming how many things you have to remember throughout the week.  That’s why I’m giving you tips on how I stay organized during this busiest time of year.

1. Make a To do List

The number one thing that I do every night or first thing in the morning is write a to do list.  Usually this list consists of three to five tasks that I need to accomplish that day and it can be anything from finishing a blog post, to running errands, to taking a shower (yes sometimes I need to remind myself to take care of myself).  If I don’t do this, I will go totally off track and either sit around all day or try to do so many different things in one day to the point where I lose track of time.  This is definitely my number one way I keep organized on a daily basis.

2. Get a Planner

The second most efficient way I keep organized is with my Erin Condrin planner!  I got this one for Christmas last year and it’s so beautiful and helpful too.  You can totally customize these planners to how you want and they have space for notes, coloring pages, weekly view, monthly view, and a page to write events for the upcoming year.  I cannot live without using a planner.  I’ve tried putting appointments into the calendar app on my phone but it took too much time and it just didn’t work for me like a physical planner does.  It also comes with stickers inside and you can by sticker packs as well to make your life easier and more beautiful!  Which leads me to my next point…..

3. Use Stickers

This tip is optional, but it really helps me a lot!  I like to use color coded tabs for each month and use that same color tab in the weekly view.  I also use cute and fun stickers from this book to highlight my anniversary every month, make my to do lists more interesting, and just simply use for decoration!  I also like these stickers because they have a pack for school to better organize your assignments, functions, and more!  They have different packs for different events like weddings, school, budgeting, and even appointments.  Stickers are just a way to beautify your week and really help me look forward  to staying organized.

4. Color Code

I can’t stress this part enough.  Color coding saves me so much confusion and headache.  I color code everything from television shows I can’t miss, to appointments I have coming up.  For example, my to do list is written in black, my dogs appointments are written in blue, and blogging is purple.  I write all of the things I need to know on both the weekly and monthly section so I can focus on the week but also plan for the entire month.  Using different colors for all of my tasks is really helpful and is way more interesting look at every day.

5. Schedule Some “Me Time”

When you have a busy life, it’s important to set time aside to do something for you.  Self care is extremely important.  You can’t take care of others unless you take care of yourself.  Your “me time” can consist of anything from having a few minutes of quiet time to yourself in the morning to taking a bubble bath.  I schedule my “me time” every Sunday so I can take time to unwind and prepare for another busy week.

Being busy is easy, but being productive is hard unless you utilize the proper tools like a planner, stickers, and to-do lists.  One last reminder, write everything down as soon as you make an appointment or get invited to a holiday party!  You don’t want to miss important plans because you forgot to write it down.  My motto is: if it takes less than two minutes, just do it right away!  These simple and easy tips are a surefire way to keep you organized and productive throughout all of your holiday festivities!  Be sure to follow along @everydayxelizabeth on Instagram to keep up to date on all of the latest fashion, beauty, and lifestyle tips! What I Love About Fall

Fall 3Fall 6Fall 2Fall 8Fall 4Fall 7Fall 1Fall 9Fall 5

When autumn began, I couldn’t help but feel more positive and uplifted.  I’m not sure if it’s because the year is almost over and I’m feeling accomplished and excited for 2019 already, or if its the feeling of the holidays quickly approaching.  Due to my positive mood, I really wanted to share my favorite things about fall with you and take a step back from fashion for a second!

One of my ultimate favorite things I love about fall is the weather.  I haven’t gotten the chance to fully experience chillier temperatures in Florida yet this year, but last weekend we got a little taste of it and I definitely want it to stick around for as long as possible!  I feel like the perfect weather is between 65-78 degrees.  I can wear my chunky sweaters with my favorite denim and boots without sweating to death (be warned as soon as the temps drop I will be posting non stop in cardigans, jeans, boots, and sweaters… no shame!)  My favorite ways to spend fall is taking long walks with my pup and sitting on my balcony unwinding with a glass of wine at night  or drinking my cup of coffee in the morning.  There’s something about the crisp air that makes me feel invigorated.

Another thing I love about fall is the decorations.  It’s so hard to wait until the official first day of fall to put my decoration throughout my home.  If you saw my fall home decor post, you probably noticed that all of my decor is very neutral and matches everything that already exists in my home.  I’m more of a neutral lover myself but when this season rolls around, I love to see pops of warm oranges, yellows, reds, and browns.  Also, there’s nothing like the smell of a fall candle burning, filling your entire home with a pumpkin spice scent.  On Sundays, I enjoy spending my time cleaning the house, taking a relaxing shower and curling up on the couch with a fall candle lit to watch an episode of Gray’s Anatomy with my man.  It makes me feel so at ease and helps me recuperate after a long week and busy weekend.

One of the most crucial things I can’t live without during the season are fall treats.  I’m not really a pumpkin spice latte kind of girl but I do love pumpkin cookies and pumpkin bread.  I also love roasted pumpkin seeds with maple syrup!  You can’t forget anything cinnamon flavored either: cinnamon caramel macchiato, cinnamon rolls, cinnamon apples…. I go crazy for cinnamon!  This year, I’m trying not to go overboard with the seasonal treats like I did last year, but I do indulge every once in a while.  Along with the sweet treats, I go crazy for fall soups and dishes as well.  There’s nothing like a hearty bowl of warm chili or butternut squash soup to make you feel warm and cozy.  I’ve already started pinning some new fall recipes on my Pinterest that I can’t wait to try.  I’m hoping to try a new fall dish once a week.  I really want to have some easy, seasonal dishes that are healthy and delicious in my back pocket for dinner parties and guests in the future.  Once I find my favorite seasonal meals, I’ll be sure to share them with you.

Though the weather, fall decorations, and treats make me excited for the season, I can’t survive without fall fashion.  From October until January, I live in denim shorts, chunky sweaters, and booties.  That’s literally my fall uniform.  It’s so comfortable and casual which is exactly my style.  Lately I’ve been onto the mule and slide trend and I cannot get enough!  Pointed toe slides are my favorite right now and I think heeled mule are the perfect in between for booties and sandals which make them an awesome fall transition piece!  I’ve also been obsessed with wide brim wool hats.  They are perfect for giving an outfit a boho vibe, dressing it up a little bit, and are perfect for bad hair days!  I can’t tell you how many days Ive thrown my hair in a low pony or bun, left out some front pieces, and thrown one of these hats on.  I swear that they save my life when I don’t have time (and a lot of times too lazy) to do my hair.  Since I wear a lot of black, I picked up this hat and I wear it all the time.  I also bought a taupe one recently and I can’t wait to get it in the mail!

Finally, my all time favorite thing about fall is the feeling of the holidays.  I always look forward to October through December because it’s the time to visit family, celebrate traditions, and dress up and take sweet photos.  I feel more relaxed this time of year and also less anxious.  There’s something about visiting my childhood home and spending time with family that eases my anxiety and really gives me a sense of comfort.  This fall is going to be very different than any other one I’ve had, and I can’t wait to finally tell you what’s coming up, but I’m still over the moon and thrilled for the rest of fall and the start of the winter season.  Chill bonfires, quiet mornings on the patio, and the best company make for a cozy autumn season and a happier mind.

That’s everything I love about fall!  I know it’s a lot, but how could I not love basically everything this season?  Stay tuned and keep up with everything going on in fashion, beauty, and lifestyle this season @everydayxelizabeth on Instagram! Xx

My Favorite Halloween Movies & Loungewear

Movie 4Movie 1Movie 5Movie 2Movie 6Movie 3

Halloween is nearly upon us and I am so excited!  Ever since October first hit I started to light my fall candles and watch Halloween movies.  Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of the holiday but I love how cheerful everyone is this time of year.  When I was younger, my parents didn’t actually let my brothers and I celebrate Halloween so I think that’s why it’s not my favorite holiday.  However, as I got older they became more lenient and I was able to go trick or treating and go to Halloween themed parties which I was really grateful for.  Personally, I don’t really go out and celebrate the holiday by dressing up and hitting the town, but I do like to celebrate it my own way…. watching movies!  I’m super thrilled to share with you my favorite Halloween movies and the cutest lounge wear to watch them in!

My top 5 Halloween Movies
5. It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

This film is on my top five because it’s such a cute classic.  It’s like you’re obligated to watch it in October, Plus it’s a great family movie!

4. The Addams Family

I love the comedy in all of these movies and Wednesday Addams has always been one of my favorite characters of all time!  It’s also cool because my parents were able to watch these as kids as well.

3. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

So I’m going to keep it real.  I am not into scary movies or gory movies at all but for some reason, I liked this one a lot.  I just recently grew the courage to watch it and I actually really enjoyed it.  I’m a sucker for a musical and the darkness of this one did not disappoint!

2. Sleepy Hollow

I have such an obsession with this movie it’s not even funny!  I seriously watch it all the time.  If you can’t tell I love films with Johnny Depp in them.  I just love how he goes all in with a character he’s playing.  This movie is a little creepy but not filled with horror, it’s filled with mystery, and I enjoy all things headless horseman.

1. The Nightmare Before Christmas

I saved the best for last!  It’s funny, when I was younger I wasn’t allowed to watch this movie and now it’s mandatory for my to watch it throughout October and December.  My boyfriend and I constantly debate on if this is a Halloween movie or Christmas movie.  I say it’s both but he says it’s Christmas…. so we compromised and said it’s both!  This film is so classic and fun and I just can’t get enough of this movie this time of year!

Now that you know my ultimate Halloween movie list, let’s get on to the cute and comfortable lounge wear you should be watching them in!

Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale Haul | 2018

Lilly 1

The day is finally here! I have FINALLY received all of my items from the After Party Sale and I am so excited to show you everything I grabbed and review them for you as well!  I kept my order fairly small and only purchased four items.  Another spoiler alert, I didn’t go too crazy with all of the prints this year.  This year, I focused on purchasing a few pieces that I could wear all the time so I mainly stuck to solids.  So here we go! Here’s everything I snagged from the APS!

Pajamas

Lilly 4.jpg

Outfit Details:

Knit PJ Tank | Knit PJ Pant

Print: Raz Berry Rosé All Day

Taking about my favorite purchases first!  I was so excited to get these in the mail.  The print is so colorful and the style is super basic and comfortable.  The material is super soft and i know i’m going to wear holes into these items because I’m going to use them that much!  I still need to get the pants hemmed so I definitely need to do that before I can start wearing them.  For size reference I chose to size up to a large because there are no returns after the sale and I wanted for them to still fit comfortably after trowing then the dryer.  The pants also came in a short version which I almost picked but I wanted to get use out of these during the chillier seasons as well.  I absolutely can’t get enough of these pajamas and I would definitely pay the full price for them in order to get more sets.

Leggings

Lilly 3

Outfit Details:

21″ Weekender Legging in Raz Berry

So…. here’s the deal.  I was so excited to to get these leggings in the mail.  Online I had a choice between pink or blue and I chose the pink.  As soon as I opened the package all I saw was this neon pink.  Online they definitely did not look as bright as they are.  I ordered a size medium (my true size) and the fit is great.  I feel like lululemon leggings feel better, these aren’t the softest leggings I’ve owned but they are pretty thick which I like.  I’m not sure if I will purchase these again.  If they have them in the blue next year I definitely want those! I’m just not a fan of how neon they are.  I’m still on the fence if I should keep them or not but I kind of want to workout in them and see how that goes before I make a final decision.

Tank

Lilly 2

Outfit Details:

Dusk Top in Resort White

Last but not least, this basic tank.  Online I thought this was one of the silk tanks Lilly Pulitzer makes but it’s not.  I was a little disappointed about that because I already have a shirt this exact material and color from Lilly.  This top is unlined so because of the material it’s pretty thin and see through but it’s a great basic and is so light weight, it would be perfect for summer!  I’m most likely not keeping this just because I have a tank almost exactly the same to this one but it’s still a great basic if you’re on the hunt for one!

That’s all I have from my After Party Sale haul!  Stay up to date with all things life, style, and beauty by following along @everydayxelizabeth on Instagram! Xx
